New Feature: Calendars

We’re excited to announce a new way to share events on your Squarespace website: a calendar feature that we call the Events Collection. Whether you’re a small store with workshops or a musician on tour, you can now share your upcoming schedule with your customers and fans.

Calendar View

The Events Collection comes with two viewing modes: Calendar View and List View. Each mode is responsively designed – like all other elements of a Squarespace website, your Events Collection looks perfect no matter what device you’re using. In List View, you can add thumbnail images to accompany each item, presenting your upcoming events in a compelling, elegant way.

List View

To add an Events Collection to your website, simply click “Add Page” in your Website Manager and select “Events”. You can add each event much like you would a blog entry, adding additional information, dates, URLs, and thumbnail images... even products from your store. You can easily push out the event information via social media channels when you post. Visitors can share the event via social channels, or add the event to their Google Calendar or iCal.

Thank you for using Squarespace. We hope you enjoy the new calendar feature!

Squarespace Commerce: Now Supporting Canada

We’re thrilled to announce that Squarespace Commerce is now open for use in Canada!

If you’re based in Canada and are looking to sell digital or physical goods on Squarespace, you’re in luck. Simply connect your Canadian Stripe account to Squarespace today and start processing transactions in Canadian dollars.

Along with this release, there are 3 specific improvements to the commerce platform:

  • Canadian Currency Support - The currency displayed throughout your Squarespace store will reflect the currency set in your Stripe account currency (which you select upon sign-up, and cannot be changed). All prices are quoted in CAD for Canadian stores on Squarespace.
  • Tax System Improvements - You can now define taxes internationally and locally, down to the zip code level. As before, you can choose to add tax on products as well as shipping. Easily add more fine-grained shipping rules by jurisdiction, and define local rules by a single postal code or a range of postal codes.
  • Metric System Support - In Store Settings, you may now choose between Imperial and Metric standards to define product weights and weight-based shipping options.

For more information on the Squarespace Commerce platform, check out this post.

As always, thank you for being a Squarespace customer!

Gaining Momentum

Today, we’re excited to introduce Momentum – the latest design available in our template collection.

Momentum is a beautiful, flexible design built especially for photographers and designers who are ready to take their work front and center. With this template, you have the option of showcasing your portfolio with the cinematic full-bleed image display, or preserving the original resolution and visual integrity with the centered image display. You can add information for each image, video, or project to add context to your galleries. Momentum is also our first multi-index template, created for folks that have multiple projects or galleries that they’d like to share. The index view shows all of your galleries with aspect-correct thumbnails, so that visitors can scroll through your work on one page, without interruption.

As with all of our designs, a number of customization options are available for Momentum. You can add a background image for your sub-pages, such as your blog or store. Image descriptions within your gallery can be easily toggled on or off. The navigation bar can go on top or on the bottom.

Thinking about taking on Momentum for your next project? Have any questions regarding our newest design? Send us a tweet @squarespace with your comments and questions!

Squarespace Commerce Dribbble Playoff: The Results Are In

To celebrate the launch of Squarespace Commerce, we partnered with Dribbble – an exclusive show-and-tell community for designers – for a special design competition much like the one we did for Squarespace 6. This time, we asked designers to present the Squarespace logo using money as a theme.

The official Squarespace Commerce Rebound Playoff racked up 267 ‘rebound’ entries, making this the second most popular playoff contest on Dribbble of all time. Take a look at the top 5 winners here, including our favorite by Joaquin Marques Nielsen.

Standard Plan: Now with 2 Contributors

Sometimes, we need a little help to get our website up and running quickly. You might ask a friend for a favor, or even work with a professional designer depending on your needs. Starting today, our Standard plan now allows two contributors, up from one. This should solve any problems you're facing when you need more than one person to access your Squarespace website at once.

To add a contributor to your website, go to the Settings menu on your Website Manager, and click Contributors. More comprehensive details can be found in our guide
