Crash, Bang, Boom! [NYC Building Collapse]

Wow! So as it turns out, Anthony didn’t really need his alarm clock this morning. Instead he was awoken by the noise of AN ENTIRE FRIGGIN BUILDING COLLAPSING!

The building was located in downtown NYC at 69 Reade Street (between Church and Broadway), and it collapsed around 6:15 this morning. Apparently the building was undergoing major renovations, so it was unoccupied—so far, it looks like no one was hurt.

Man, does this bring new meaning to the term “wake up call” or what!?

See more killer pics (Anthony was jumping around rooftops to shoot these!), and get some more scoop here on his blog.

Squarespace Got Snook'd

And just in case you don’t know what that means, that’s a *very* good thing.

Earlier this month, web developer, designer, author, blogger, twitterer, and all around programming rockstar Jonathan Snook let the cat out of the bag: he’s joining the Squarespace crew!

Needless to say, everyone is pretty excited around these parts:

Anthony/@acasalena: Honored that @snookca is joining Squarespace! Going to be an incredible year.

Tyler/@tyler_thompson: Welcome aboard @snookca!

Teddy/@myfavoritething: @snookca welcome!!!

As Lead Developer, Jonathan is going to be working on a whole mess of things, helping us along as we evolve Squarespace into an even better platform. In his own words he’ll be diving into:

Lots of JavaScript development. I’ll be focused on the interface, working to improve the interactivity and continuing to build a platform that makes it easy for people to manage their own web sites.

Jonathan and Anthony spoke about teaming up years ago (back when Squarespace was being run out of Anthony’s dorm room), but the timing just wasn’t ever right. So we're all pretty excited that this has finally come full circle.

Welcome, Snook!

P.S. now that its all official, check out Jonathan on our live.squarespace.com page!

Rounding the Corners

With modern browsers gaining more and more market share, I feel like it is time to start taking a stronger stance with CSS3 stylings. That being said, I wanted to offer up a small snippet of CSS you can add to your styles to round the corners of your sections.

In style editing mode, click the Custom CSS tab and past the following into the window.

.section { border-radius: 8px; -webkit-border-radius: 8px; -moz-border-radius: 8px; }

This rounds the corners of your sections via CSS. It wont work in IE, it will however degrade gracefully, IE users will only see the original squared corners. You can change the values as long as they match, to say, 6px if you don’t want such a intense corner radius. You can also apply this to other elements like .journal-entry-wrapper, which would give all your entries a nice rounded background element.

Have fun.
