New Template: Blueprint

Browse through the templates in your Style Editor and you'll find our newest offering: Blueprint.

Blueprint was designed by Senior Designer Stephen Parker to be a new starting point for a modern website. To get there, Stephen explored color schemes, proportions, and shapes and forms of text. For an extra-polished look, Blueprint boasts some subtle-but-cutting-edge improvements like CSS transitions and image-width calculations to make the experience seamless for customers.

Blueprint has five unique styles to make sure there is something for everyone. It's also the first template to come with equal column height for both main content and sidebars, so your columns will always align at the bottom. "Templates in the future will benefit from the work done in Blueprint," Stephen says. "And there's a lot of incredible new design on the way."

Since it was created to be a new starting point, Blueprint is now our default template for new customers, a crucial component in our freshly redesigned onboarding experience. This new experience includes a helpful tutorial of our editing modes that gets new customers started on their sites quickly. Current customers have the full benefit of the new tutorial too — just click on the Help icon in your menu bar while logged in to see the updated Help features.

To try Blueprint on for size, just follow this guide to switching templates. We hope you enjoy!

New Templates for All

We're pleased to offer our customers two new templates to choose from. You may have already stumbled across the New Amsterdam template, which was released a couple of months ago. Today we added another great selection for you: Canopy.

While many V5 features have been added since the original templates were first created, New Amsterdam and Canopy offer further enhancements. "The majority of my time is spent developing in V6 and it pains me that our community has to wait for these great experiences," says Senior Designer Krystyn Heide. "So I was itching to design something in V5. These new templates are built to be ready to use right out of the box, with a little more than you might expect from our current style offerings."

New Amsterdam was created with an eye toward small business owners and the professional websites they need. It has six color variations, each designed to give businesses a versatile color palette to showcase their own logos against.

Canopy, on the other hand, is geared toward bloggers. With five style variations, this blog-centric template is spare in design with just a touch of color. The minimalistic approach is meant to really let bloggers showcase their content as beautifully as possible.

If you'd like to try out one of these new templates but need a little help switching over, watch this video tutorial on template switching

New Template: Usonian

Introducing our newest template (with 4 styles): Usonian

Usonian was a term used by the late Frank Lloyd Wright to refer to his clean, efficient, beautiful architecture for the masses.

In the same way, this template provides a solid framework for nearly any website. It is a clean, professional base that just needs your personal or corporate branding.

A few highlights:

Full-Width Headers and Footers - background colors and banner images run seam-to-seam on the canvas for a really sharp effect.

Block-Style Sidebar Links - full-width links increase hit space and make for great looking hovers.

How do you get Usonian? It's already been added system-wide, just log in and browse the system templates [Style Editing Mode > Templates]...enjoy!

Template Poll (closed)

We have lots of amazing new templates in the works right now. Going forward I will be planning out the next phase of templates and wanted to get some input from the people using our system (that is you guys). I am looking for some feedback on what style of template you would most like to see next. Be aware we have a bunch in the works right now, so there might already be a style covered, but regardless, I want to give all the Squarespacers out there the ability to choose the fate of one of our new templates.
