iPhone Giveaway F.A.Q.

Ok, so despite our handy, dandy little rules and information page, it seems like you guys have still have a LOAD of questions about our 30 iPhones in 30 Days giveaway. In lieu of repeating ourselves every day on Twitter from here until doomsday (i.e. July 7th when our contest ends), herewith are some answers to the most frequently asked questions that keep coming up:

What the heck is Squarespace?

We're glad you asked! Squarespace is online web publishing platform like none other you've ever seen. The website you are on right now is built on Squarespace, as are all of these. And if you have a blog or website, we think you should be using us too! Check out this video tour to get a better idea of how Squarespace works and feel free to sign up for our 14-day free trial (no credit card required!).

Why are you guys doing this giveaway?

We were looking for a way to show our appreciation to our fans and to say thanks for helping us grow 100% over the last few months! With our own Squarespace iPhone app in the works, we thought giving away iPhones would be a great way to celebrate with everyone who loves Squarespace just as much as we do!

What are you giving away? An actual iPhone or a gift certificate?

We are giving each winner an Apple gift certificate for $199. This can actually be used to purchase any apple good/service that you would like.

I want an iPhone! How do I enter this giveaway? (UPDATED)

In order to enter yourself in our daily giveaway, you must send out a tweet with#squarespace included somewhere within your 140 characters. This, obviously, means that you must have a Twitter account to participate. As of 6/22, you only need to send out this tweet ONCE in order to enter yourself in the giveaway through the July 7 end date.

If I include @Squarespace in my tweet, is that considered an entry?

No. You can feel free to include @squarespace as well, but you must also have a #squarespace included somewhere in your tweet in order to officially be considered an entry.

Do I need to say anything specifically in my Tweet? Do I have to retweet anything? Should I tweet what the person who won the day before tweeted?

No. No. And if you want, go for it, but it is not necessary. In order to enter, all you need is to include #squarespace, however, we certainly encourage everyone to be as creative as possible.

Do I need to re-enter the giveaway every day, or is one tweet enough to keep me in the running for the whole month? (UPDATED)

As of 6/23, you need only send out ONE tweet with #Squarespace to enter yourself in the giveaway. Your one tweet will ensure your eligibility throughout the remaining days of the competition until 7/7.

Will entering multiple times help my chances of winning? (UPDATED)

Entering multiple times will NOT increase your chances of winning.

If I have a protected Twitter account, can I still enter the giveaway?

Unfortunately, if you have a protected account, we will not be able to see your tweet in the Twitter stream. As we are not able to easily follow everyone back, you can choose to make your account unprotected if you would like to be eligible for the giveaway.

What time do you choose your winners each day?

5pm EDT.

I live in the Mountain/Pacific/Central timezone, what time is 5pm EDT here?

Seriously? LMGTFY.

What if I enter after 5pm EDT after the day's winner is chosen?

Any tweets sent in after 5pm EDT with the #Squarespace included will be counted toward the following day's entries. So one entry cycle day runs from 5:01pm EDT to 4:59pm EDT the following day.

Where are you announcing the winners each day?

We will tweet out the winner from our official @Squarespace twitter account at 5pm EDT, AND post the winner on our official rules page at: http://www.squarespace.com/iphone

Do I have to follow @Squarespace in order to win?

Nope. No need to follow us in order to win, though if you do, you'll know right away if you are the lucky winner for that day!

How long is the giveaway going on?

30 days, from Monday, June 8th through Tuesday, July 7th, 2009.

Are you giving away iPhones on Saturdays & Sundays too?

Yep!

Do I have to be a U.S. resident in order to enter?

No.

What if iPhone service is not available in my country?

Well, that's a bummer. However, since we are giving you an Apple gift card for $199, you may use it to purchase whatever Apple good/service that you'd like.

Will you be paying for my cellular/data network plan if I win?

No. That will be your responsibility.

Do you have to sign an AT&T contract if you win?

Well, not from our end. HOWEVER, if you choose to use your $199 Apple gift card to purchase an iPhone and IF you live in the U.S., AT&T is currently the only cellular provider that supports it. So IF you choose to buy an iPhone and IF you want it to work, you will need to sign up with AT&T in order for it to do so. That's totally up to you, though. For more information on AT&T's cellular plans and pricing, please visit their website.

Does kissing up help my chances of winning?

Not at all, but we do appreciate all the kind words and creative tweets.

I'm already a Squarespace customer...does this help my chances of winning?

While this giveaway is open to everyone, we are hoping that over a period of 30 days, we'll likely get to give away some iPhones to some of our fave Squarespace users!

How old do I have to be to enter the giveaway?

Old enough to have a Twitter account.

I have a question that wasn't answered here...how do I find out the answer?

Leave us a comment! We'll try to answer as many questions as we can.

When I put #squarespace it doesnt highlight in red like the others look. Is that correct? Or does it look red and accurate from other peoples accounts when they view mine?

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMrChrisdavis

if i tweet from a protected account, can you see those and do they get counted?

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteranne

awesome! thanks for hosting my site. it went from crappy to snappy!

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermike

While I am not a SquareSpace employee, customer, or otherwise affiliated with them at all, I did want to help answer these comments.

MrChrisdavis:
The "look" is slightly irrelevant. As long as you have "#squarespace" somewhere in your tweet, that's all that matters. SquareSpace's search, however they're running it, will pick your entry up because of the existence of that "hashtag" (as they're called).

anne:
Not likely. Protected account's tweets don't show up on the public timeline, and SquareSpace likely uses that to read all tweets with "#squarespace" in the message. Since they don't require you to follow them in order to enter, then you should not assume your protected account's messages will be found.

What I DO NOT know, is, if you do follow them, if they'll be able to see it in the search they run to find their winner.

They'd have to answer the second half of that, as I obviously don't know what they actually use to search.

Great marketing idea! Best of luck with the competition.

I'll follow them, but they'll have to folllow me back to see my protected tweets...

Re: protected Twitter streams (also updated post above):

If I have a protected Twitter account, can I still enter the giveaway?

Unfortunately, if you have a protected account, we will not be able to see your tweet in the Twitter stream. As we are not able to easily follow every one back, you can choose to make your account unprotected if you would like to be eligible for the giveaway.

you guys are awesome!

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergene

first off i wanted to say i think its an amazing promotion tactic but you say "We were looking for a way to show our appreciation to our customers to say thanks" but if that was the case you would be giving them to those of us who are squarespace users not just people who will post it just to win a iphone and then never look back.

but hey thats just my take on it.

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterfeix62

Just curious, how exactly are you guys selecting the winner. Is it really random or are you just scrolling down and picking one?

Thanks.

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNeil Desai

Soooooo....cool.
This had me thinking -- what would people buy if they won?

So I tweeted this and added a poll to my blog....

TODAY'S POLL: If you won a $199 Apple certificate in the Squarespace contest, what would you buy? Take the poll here:

You addres public/private accounts, but not this situation:
My account is private, but I follow Squarespace on Twitter. Are you able to see my tweet in the stream that way? Or do I still have to make my account public.

Thanks!
GCK

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGirlCalledKitty

June 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

@GCK eventhough you follow us, we are still not able to see your stream in our Twitter search if your account is protected. Sorry!

As for how we choose our winners, we can't tell you EXACTLY how, but yes! It's random! :)

June 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEzekiel675

extremely well-written FAQ, and one of the top 5 marketing ideas I've ever heard. truly brilliant, great work. Also, Squarespace is a GREAT product that I personally use - and I do not work for the company.

June 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBen

What about including #squarespace in a reply to another user? Does it have to be a public tweet (i.e. not start with @username)?
