Use PictoBrowser to Embed a Flickr Slideshow

Posted on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 03:29PM by Registered CommenterKrystyn Heide in | Comments26 Comments
Occasionally, we see tickets from customers who would like to embed Flickr slideshows into their Squarespace website. In my previous research, all I’ve come across are Flickr’s official badge and some various converters for Flickr feeds. But today, I came across a nice little app called PictoBrowser.

Below I’ve used a set from Brilliant Shadow Photography to demonstrate how it works. Take it for a test spin — if you like it, just click on the Info button on the bottom right corner to get your own.

That's great to know! I've only been using Squarespace for a month, but the support you all offer and the tips are very helpful. Thanks a lot!

Only having found this post today, I'm so thrilled. Just last night - I'm not even kidding - I was visiting another (non-Squarespace-user) blog in which photos were presented usingthe embedded Flickr slideshow. And I wistfully thought, "If we could do that too, my Squarespace experience would be pretty much complete."

And today I find this! (Now I just need to actually start taking pictures again.)

Thanks so much!!!

what about other photo servers like Picasa and Photobucket etc

Lucy: Pictobrowser does not work with Picasa or Photobucket.

Abe: The code must be added in Raw HTML mode. It will not work in WYSIWYG mode. If you're still having issues, could you please submit a ticket through our support center so we can review your code? Thanks.

Yes, this is a nice photo browser, however in Flickr you only have 100 meg storage capacity before you have to upgrade. Googles Picasa has an embeded slide show that works well. In Picasa web albums you get 1 gig storage before you need to upgrade. The only thing I don't like about the Google slide show is that it has a green start button in the center of the picture. Of course when it is going it goes away. Give it a try.

Karl,

We've actually got a huge improvement to gallery lightbox displays coming in 4.1. This is something we're intent on augmenting.

Re: Picasa

Thanks for the info, Jim. Actually, I think using your own Squarespace site for photo storage and gallery display is the best option. :)

We do have a lot of customers who use Flickr and have inquired about integrating their Flickr photos in their Squarespace website. This post is strictly to address those questions/requests.

Hope this clarifies!

This is exatly what I've been looking for to implement to my site. I can still utilize my Flickr pro account and show my photos on my website. Easy to manipulate as well. Great find!
