Squarespace Ireland: Announcing Our First International Office

After nine years in business, we’re proud to announce that we’ll be setting up our first international office in the great city of Dublin, Ireland, later this summer.

With more and more members joining us from different locations all over the world, we wanted to ensure that we’re providing the best possible customer care we can. The Squarespace operation in central Dublin will serve Squarespace customers around the globe and will initially focus on a variety of customer care roles. The initiative is supported by the Irish National Department of Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation through IDA Ireland, the government agency responsible for the attraction and development of foreign investment in Ireland.

We’re looking forward to being closer to our customers in Europe and beyond as we continue our internationalization efforts.

Squarespace x SmugMug

Today, we’re pleased to announce a new partnership with SmugMug – the incredibly popular photo hosting and commerce service for photographers. With our new integration, photographers can easily showcase their best work with images from their SmugMug galleries and direct customers back to their SmugMug site to purchase gifts and prints.

With just a few clicks, you can easily browse and import selected SmugMug photos into a Squarespace gallery. We grab the original image and generate multiple sizes so your pictures look great on any device. Plus, we keep your metadata intact and auto-populate the click-through URLs to your SmugMug lightbox.

You can create as many SmugMug galleries on your Squarespace website as you like (with a limit of 50 photos per gallery), and use them as standalone gallery pages or in gallery blocks within pages and blog posts. Once imported, your photos can also be synced with our Portfolio App, an unbranded, simple way to take the work in your portfolio with you and access it without needing to connect to the Internet.

Getting started is easy. In the settings section of your website manager, simply visit Connected Accounts, select SmugMug, and provide your SmugMug credentials. Once the SmugMug logo appears under your Connected Accounts, click Import Albums, choose an album, and select which photos you’d like to import. A new Squarespace gallery with these photos will appear in your content manager. We've created a helpful guide to walk you through the steps.

SmugMug is a great addition to the Squarespace platform, and joins Instagram, Flickr, Vimeo, and 500px in our lineup of photo and video integrations. Want to see others in the mix? Send us a tweet @squarespace!

To celebrate our partnership, SmugMug is offering 25% off all new accounts for Squarespace customersClick here and use coupon code SquarespaceNow by March 13th to take advantage of the discount.

Squarespace + Typekit: 65 Professional Fonts for Free

Today, we are pleased to announce a partnership with Typekit, the leader in providing high-quality hosted fonts to websites. Our new partnership makes more than 65 Typekit fonts immediately available to all Squarespace customers at no additional charge.

Typography plays an elemental role in establishing the personality and tone of your website. Fonts on the web have historically lagged behind what has been available to desktop publishers due to complex licensing restrictions and platform formats. Typekit removes those barriers and ensures your website can use licensed, beautiful typography.

You can find the new Typekit fonts in your Style Editor listed under each drop-down menu in the Typography section. This is in addition to the entire Google Web Fonts library already available on the platform.

Typekit fonts are fully integrated into your Style Editor

Already a Typekit customer?

You can also easily use any of Typekit’s other fonts on Squarespace if you have a Typekit account. From Typekit, simply create a kit and enter the kit ID in your site settings area. The Style Editor will automatically replace our default fonts with the fonts in your kit, so you can visually select the fonts you’ve integrated.

We’re always working hard to improve your experience with Squarespace and would love to hear from you. Have another integration you’d like to suggest? Send us a tweet @squarespace!

Hurricane Sandy – How You Can Help

The post-hurricane situation in many parts of New York and New Jersey is still dire. Large areas have been without power for 4-5 days and are running out of food, gas, and clean water. Medications are in short supply, elderly are trapped in apartment buildings, and thousands of homes have been destroyed. ‘Getting back to normal’ is not going to be as simple as pumping out flood waters and restoring electricity.

Even though Squarespace has been dealing with our own fair share of complications, we are well aware that the risks to our business pale in comparison to the human suffering and property damage that is being experienced throughout the tri-state area. Our New York office is still without power, but we’re safe and sound, with most of our employees working remotely from home.

We noticed a lot of goodwill and kind offers for food and donations in response to our efforts to keep our services up and running these last few days. The best way to say thank you to us is to help our fellow New Yorkers and New Jerseyans. With that in mind, here are some helpful links for donating money and volunteering locally to help those in need.

Please stay safe out there, and we all thank you for your ongoing support.

Downtime Expected Due to Sandy

Everyone, I have some unfortunate news to share.

Our primary data center, Peer1, in Lower Manhattan lost power yesterday at about 4:30PM local time. At that time, we smoothly made the transition to generator power and took comfort over the fact that we had enough fuel to last three to four days. (Peer1 stayed online during the last 3 major natural disasters in the area, including a blackout that lasted for days.)

At 8:30PM yesterday, we received reports that the lobby in the data center’s building was beginning to take on water. By 10:30PM, as is sadly the case in most of Lower Manhattan, Peer1’s basement had experienced serious flooding. At 5AM, we learned our data center’s fuel pumps and fuel tanks were completely flooded and unable to deliver any more fuel. At 8AM, they reported that the generators would be able to run for a maximum of four more hours.

Unfortunately, this means that Squarespace will be offline soon (our estimate being at 12PM today). Be assured that while this will impact our availability, there is no chance of data loss or any other permanent effects. We have simply run out of power, backup power, and cannot access our fuel in a flooded basement.

Our teams have been working tirelessly on contingency plans. We are working to bring the Squarespace systems back online as soon as possible. As you have probably read, all bridges and tunnels into and out of Manhattan are closed and large portions of the city remain without power. We will do everything in our power to get Squarespace running as soon as possible, and we will remain online for as long as it is safe.

Squarespace support will remain available 24/7 during this downtime. We will post updates to Twitter via @squarespacehelp and urge you to follow us there.

Our hearts go out to the many people who have lost their lives in this terrible tragedy and also to those who continue to suffer through the consequences of this historic storm.

Thank you for your understanding.
